RICK STOLP, Ph.D.
I have been providing psychological services and presenting educational workshops for over 30 years. I received my doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Florida Institute of Technology in 1983 and have trained extensively in the area of family and couples therapy.
I am an Advanced Clinician, a faculty member and Clinical Instructor at Imago Relationships International and train clinicians for certification as an Imago Therapists and Certified Imago Workshop presenters throughout the world.
In my private practice, I work extensively with couples and folks dealing with relationship issues and I specialize in group therapy. I am a member of the American Psychological Association, a Clinical Member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, and a member of Imago Relationships International.
Though I have trained and utilize various approaches in order to customize my work to the individual or couple in my office, I work primarily as an Imago Therapist. In Imago therapy, I help you uncover the past hurts that continue to influence your life today. You survived these hurts by adopting certain defenses. While these defenses may have saved you from pain years ago, they are now limiting your life and actually causing you pain.
My desire is to help you grow beyond your hurts and defenses allowing you to be freer, have more options, and really enjoy your life. You can read more about Imago Relationship Therapy in the books “Getting the Love You Want: A Guide for Couples” and “Keeping the Love You Find: A Guide for Singles”, both by Harville Hendrix, Ph.D.
I am published in the Journal of Sex Research, and the Journal of Imago Relationship Therapy. Additionally, I am co-author of “A Model for Couples Group Therapy” with my colleague Sandy Canfield.
Sherry and I trained with Harville Hendrix in 1990 and 1991 and have been presenting the “Getting the Love You Want” Workshops for Couples since 1992. Over 100 workshops later, we are both still energized by helping couples learn the tools and skills to help them negotiate the power struggle, heal old hurts, put their relationship at the center of their lives and commit to a new conscious, loving, and passionate coupleship. Our workshop is designed for couples in any stage of relationship – those preparing to enter a committed relationship, those wanting to make an OK coupleship great, as well as those struggling and looking for answers.
Many folks who have come through the workshop end up offering the workshop to their children who are preparing for marriage! Learn more about our “Getting the Love You Want” Couples Workshop now!
Sherry Stolp, MA, LPC
I have been working with Rick for over 20 years leading our “Getting the Love You Want” Couples Workshop. I am a Certified Imago Therapist, an Advanced Imago Clinician, a Certified Imago Workshop Presenter and have maintained a private practice as a couples coach since 2008. I am passionate about helping couples navigate the problems inherent to all committed relationships.
I want to have a positive impact on the world and feel strongly that the best way to accomplish this is to save JUST ONE CHILD the pain of watching his or her world fall apart as they endure their parent’s separation and divorce. Just one child experiencing the model of dialogical problem solving and the safety and intentionality present in a conscious, committed coupleship will change the life of that child, and potentially, the world. Because of my commitment to children, especially to my own children, I waited until my son Richard, 25, and my daughter Deanna, 23, were in the last couple of years of high school before going back to graduate school myself. I received my Master’s in Professional Counseling in 2009 and am a Licensed Professional Counselor.
I consider my personal style to be warm and down to earth and I endeavor to create a supportive environment that allows and encourages your growth and exploration. Clients tell me that I am easy to talk to and that they feel understood. I see myself as being emotionally stable, friendly but serious about our therapeutic partnership and highly passionate regarding your emotional welfare. While our work focuses on your psychological well-being, I do consider the holistic contribution of physical, spiritual and social factors.
My professional strengths are the result of a Master’s degree in professional counseling, intensive training in Imago Relationship Therapy, personal therapy, and over 20 years of professional experience as a “Getting the Love You Want” Couples Workshop leader, couples coach, and educator. Well informed intuition guides my therapeutic approach within a psychodynamic foundation.
Our environment is warm, relaxed and supportive and you can be assured I will hold our work in the highest confidence. I believe that psychotherapy can be a profound and potentially life-changing experience. I feel humbled to be able to significantly help others resolve problems and to give them tools to enjoy a life of contentment and happiness. I look forward to helping you.
